We give you
the process for
successful
communication with others.
You decide!
Our Texts
are based on the Four-Phase Lesson Plan:*
How It
Applies to Improving My Communication
Each
of the following applications deals with a
particular type of behavior that is
experienced frequently by anyone such as
those behaviors required for successful
leadership or building a productive team.
Many behaviors are demonstrated, some in
normal situations and some in outrageous,
imaginative circumstances. In order to
present each type of behavior in a
meaningful way, the application relates
to experiences that build powerful
communication skills. As an aid to the
exploration of ideas, each chapter is
broken down into four phases: inquire,
gather, process and apply.
This
format may be used by the individual or
groups:
INQUIRE Phase: The
group shares and communicates what they
already know about the theme such a
successful communication. They examine
their own memories and experiences. They
share with each other what they already
know. They also evaluate their attitudes,
feelings and motivation about their
relationship with themselves and with
others. They are given respect. On an
individual level you may reflect on what
you already know.
GATHER Phase: The
participant(s) investigate and discover new information
presented by the facilitator, about successful, positive
communication such as the Winning
Colors®process. In a
nutshell, this is the stage when
up-to-the-minute information is presented
and research skills are learned that will
be of value throughout life in the face
of challenges. Activities at this stage
connect newly discovered information in
this case as found in the experiences of
the authors and those of the instructor.
This is the foundation for becoming the
Ultimate Communicator.
PROCESS Phase: In a
group, they are given the opportunity to
practice what they have learned in a safe
environment with a facilitator. They
learn to assimilate all the information
from the Inquire and Gather phases by
integrating what was known and the latest
findings. They may decide that some
of what they thought about communication
in the Gather Phase hinders good
communication and even DRASTIC changes
need to be made. They throw out the bath water but keep the baby! The
Winning
Colors®behavioral
clusters will assist them in this phase
as they discover why people act the way
they do and what to do about it. For
instance, the process of developing the
Relater Part of self can be achieved by
placing one person in the center of the
group. Each of the others in the circle
bombards her or him with positive
remarks. Activities in this phase become
“hands-on” in the sense of
practicing what was known and what was
learned.
APPLY Phase: The
participants now have the competence to
transfer what they have learned about
positive communication and already knew
to their personal or business situations.
The bottom-line is that these behaviors
learned and experienced in a controlled
situation may be applied to activities in
everyday situations. It would be
profitable to meet later and discuss
their successes in the application of
what they have learned in this process,
sharing their real life experiences.
