The primary objective of Service Learning
is to initiate positive change in the community as a learning experience. Thus, the
Winning Colors process supports Service Learning by prompting behavior modification to
accommodate improved communication.
Reasons for Completing A Service Learning
Experience Using Winning Colors.
Many high schools across the country now have
either a Senior Project or a Community Service Graduation Requirement.
What is unique about a Winning Colors Service
Learning Experience?
Students can match the number of PLANNER, BUILDER, RELATER,
and ADVENTURER activities needed to complete the required hours necessary for a Senior
Project of Community Service Requirement using LEVEL FOUR.
LEVEL ONE - Grades 1-5
LEVEL TWO - Middle School
LEVEL THREE - Adult - Senior Project or
Community Services Graduation Requirement with expanded exercise
supporting LEVEL THREE
The THREE LEVELS allow the students to select the appropriate
matching materials to the learning levels of the targeted individual or group.
Each exercise can stand on its own. Each lesson can be
shortened, lengthened or modified by the instructor. Remind students it isn't as important
how much material they cover as how well they cover it. Time may limit how many exercise
can be covered.
The final closure exercise lists potential sites and
activities. From these lists participants can select a site, an activity and make a
commitment of how they will return what they have learned to their community.
Completing A Service Learning Experience using WINNING COLORS
will strengthen students' leadership, organization and communication skills.
